Published evidence on treatment costs of breast cancer varies widely in methodology and a global systematic review is lacking. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review to compare treatment costs of breast cancer by stage at diagnosis across countries at different levels of socio-economic development, and to identify key methodological differences in costing approaches. Studies were eligible if they reported treatment costs of breast cancer by stage at diagnosis using patient level data, in any language.
Despite many years of translational research in breast cancer, very few new biomarkers have been implemented for clinical use beyond estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and HER2. The main reason is that many promising biomarkers are clinically validated but lack analytical and clinical utility. One explanation is that proper validation of the predictive ability of the biomarker in independent datasets, and with a pre-planned statistical analysis, is not always performed.

To help oncologists and physicians provide optimal patient recommendations, the literature was reviewed to find the latest guidelines for screening mammography, including benefits and perceived harms of overdiagnosis, false positives, false negatives, and technologic advances. The technologic advances of digital breast tomosynthesis, breast ultrasonography, and magnetic resonance imaging counter the false negatives of screening mammography, particularly in women with dense breast tissue.
